Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture
Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Devotional:
Challenge of being a Christian kid with unchristian Parents
Another text from a youth student:
My parents are never excited to hear about what I learned at church, or in my quiet time. I wish they were excited with me about what God is doing in my life.
This may not apply to your home but the reason that it is important to share this text is in our church this is what some of our students are dealing with when they go home.
When we bus in students from all over the city, we have kids that come on wednesday nights that are doing their best to follow Jesus, to transform their lives, to learn, and then they go home and don’t get any support in this. What they are learning at home is the opposite. Some of those kids are coming and God is moving in their lives. From week to week you can see the war that is going on in them, because they want to follow God, but they get no support for that from home.
Please pray for our students, kids, and their parents.
Students if you are reading this here is some encouragement. You be the change you want to see in your family. If you are serious about following Jesus, God can transform your family through you. You get the support that you need from your church family and treat your home like a mission field. Serve your family, love your family, and show them what it looks like to be Jesus and love like Jesus and pray that God uses you to reach them.
Another text from a student:
My parents don’t support me in what I believe God is calling me to do.
Challenge of Parents not supporting their students as their students are following what they believe God is calling them to do.
There are so many things that come to mind whenever reading this text. The only thing that matters in this world is what our kids do for God. If we are parents that love Jesus we need to support our children in going after what they feel God is calling them to do. But also as parents there it is a struggle when our children never know what they want to do. Always changing their career choice. One minute they believe God is calling them to do this and the next minute God is calling them to do this. There's this struggle inside of the parents that is like. I just want what is best for my kids, and I am not sure if what they are hearing is God, So, I am just going to guide them the way I think best into a career.
This is a struggle for sure. Students don’t go telling your parents God is calling you to do something just because you had the idea and you want their support. If you do that you are like the kid that cried wolf, and if God really does call you into something then how are your parents going to know it is for real. Not every idea is a God Idea. So, Don’t say it was God just because you liked it.
Parents if your kids really do feel called into a specific thing from God. Ministry, Pastoring, youth pastoring, Missions, Business, whatever please support them and encourage them to follow God's leading on the path he has for them and not yours. God has given all of them talents and we need to support whatever He has for them.
Journal:
In your journal today write down some ways you can support your children in their gifts and callings.
Training:
Father,
Thank You for calling me into new and exciting things. Thank You for knowing me so intimately that You know all my fears. As You call me to step out in courage, please continue to remind me that You are with me, You never leave me, and You have equipped me. I trust that, as I obey You, You will do all You’ve promised.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Is God calling you or your children to something new? Whether that thing is big or small, don’t allow your fear to prevent you from taking the next step in faith!
