Meet Jesus
January 13, 2025
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
John 1:35-39
"The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, 'Behold, the Lamb of God!' The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, 'What are you seeking?' And they said to him, 'Rabbi' (which means Teacher), 'where are you staying?' He said to them, 'Come and you will see.' So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour."
“When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, ‘Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.’ … And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.”(Luke 5:8, 11 NLT)
Devotional:
The moment you meet Jesus, everything changes. It's not just an encounter; it's the beginning of a transformative journey. In John 1:35-39, two disciples of John the Baptist get the first glimpse of Jesus, and they follow Him. Their response is immediate—they hear about Him, and they seek to know more.
Jesus, however, doesn’t offer a sermon or long explanation. He simply asks, "What are you seeking?" This question is both profound and personal. It is the same question He asks of us today. What are we seeking in our lives? Are we seeking truth, comfort, purpose, healing, or perhaps something else?
When the disciples ask where He is staying, Jesus invites them to "come and see." It’s not a command; it’s an invitation. He wants them to experience Him personally, to know Him deeply. Jesus doesn’t offer mere information; He offers communion and relationship.
Meeting Jesus is never just about the facts; it’s about relationship. When you meet Him, He doesn’t simply answer your questions. He invites you into His presence, showing you not only who He is but who you are meant to become in Him.
When we meet Jesus, it is an invitation to something greater—an invitation to "come and see." Each day, we are offered the opportunity to experience Him in deeper ways. We don’t have to have all the answers or know all the details. We simply need to follow Him, ask questions, and be willing to stay where He is.
Peter’s life drastically changed the moment he truly met Jesus. Something in his heart recognized that he was in the presence of the holy Son of God, and his only response was humility and awe. Yet, rather than disqualify Peter for his failings, Jesus invited him to draw near and to follow. Jesus extends the same invitation to you today: no matter your past, He calls you into a life of purpose, freedom, and deeper relationship with Him.
Journal:
In your journal write down what you are seeking from Jesus. If you feel distant, remember that He is waiting for you with open arms, inviting you to come and see. Like those first disciples, take the time to walk with Him and stay in His presence. The encounter with Jesus will change you, just as it changed them.
Training:
Lord Jesus, I thank You for the invitation to come and meet You. Help me realize Your presence in my everyday life. Remove any shame or fear that keeps me from saying “yes” to Your invitation. I trust You to lead me into the life You created me to live. I want to know You more deeply and follow You more closely. Help me to answer Your question, "What are you seeking?" with honesty, and draw me into a deeper relationship with You. I long to experience Your presence every day. Amen.
