Purpose Starts with Serving

February 6, 2025

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Matthew 20:28 (NLT)

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

 Matthew 23:11

“The greatest among you shall be your servant.”

 Devotional:

If you want to find your purpose, start by serving. Jesus, the Son of God, made it clear that purpose is rooted in serving others. Sometimes we complicate it, but the best way to discover what God has for us is to step out and meet a need.

Many people search for their purpose, wondering what they were created to do. We often think of purpose as something grand—something that will make us successful, known, or fulfilled. But in God’s kingdom, purpose begins with serving.

Jesus Himself, the Son of God, modeled this truth. He came not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). He washed the feet of His disciples, fed the hungry, healed the sick, and ultimately gave His life for others. If Jesus, the King of Kings, found His purpose in serving, then our journey to purpose must start the same way.

Serving shifts our focus from ourselves to others. It teaches humility, grows compassion, and aligns our hearts with God’s will. It may begin in small ways—helping a neighbor, volunteering at church, encouraging a friend—but God uses those moments to shape our character and reveal His plans.

If you are seeking your purpose, start by asking: Who can I serve today? As you serve, trust that God will guide your steps. Purpose is not just about what we accomplish, but how we love and serve along the way.

What breaks your heart? What burden has God placed in you? Pay attention to that—your calling often begins where your compassion is stirred.

Training:

Jesus, You came to serve, not to be served. Help me to follow Your example by seeking ways to serve others. Open my heart to the needs around me and lead me to where I can make a difference. Amen.
