The Purpose of Relationships
December 16, 2024
Hey Clawson Family
Song:
Scripture:
“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” - Genesis 2:7
Devotional:
God created us for a relationship with Him, not for isolation. From the very beginning, He designed us to be connected—with Him and with one another.
Relationships are one of God’s greatest gifts to us. They are not accidental but intentional, designed to reflect His love, wisdom, and purpose. From the beginning of creation, God declared, “It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). This foundational truth reveals that relationships are part of His design for our well-being, growth, and mission.
1. Relationships Reflect God’s Nature
God Himself exists in relationship – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This divine unity is a model for our connections with others. Our relationships are an opportunity to mirror God’s love, humility, and harmony. When we love sacrificially, forgive freely, and serve selflessly, we demonstrate His character.
2. Relationships Shape Us
Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Relationships are a tool for spiritual growth. They challenge us to grow in patience, humility, and grace. Through conflict, we learn forgiveness. Through serving, we practice selflessness. God uses relationships to refine us into the likeness of Christ.
3. Relationships Advance God’s Kingdom
Jesus sent His disciples out in pairs (Mark 6:7) and called the church to be a community, not isolated believers. Relationships give us strength and accountability as we live out our faith. Together, we can fulfill the Great Commission, encourage one another, and bear each other’s burdens.
Every relationship you have is an opportunity to reveal God’s love to the world. Embrace it with purpose.

Lord,
Thank you for creating me for connection. thank You for the gift of relationships. Help me to honor You in how I love and serve others. Help me to deepen my relationship with You and use my other relationships to fulfill Your purpose. Teach me to see relationships as a reflection of Your nature, a tool for my growth, and an avenue for advancing Your Kingdom. Guide me to walk in humility, patience, and grace in all my connections. May my relationships always point back to You.
In Jesus Name, Amen
