Act your Wage
February 26, 2024
Hey Clawson Family,
Time to start off the week the best way we can!
Song:
Scripture:
1 Timothy 6:17
17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
Devotion:
I don’t know where you are today. You may have nothing – no bank account, no car, no house, nor job. You might have it all – a great house, a great job, and a 401K retirement account. But God calls you to be a good manger!
We live in a culture that teaches us a “I want it all, and I want it now” lifestyle. And if we can’t afford what we want, we just borrow money for it. I understand debt is sometimes necessary, but I have to ask, are you acting your wage? If not, then take the time to budget. Stewardship is a matter of self-discipline and contentment. Paul tells us to learn to be content in all seasons. If you don’t know how to budget, ask for help.
Here are a few principles that will guide you in this season of your life:
- Keep a margin: Live on 90% of what you earn! If you want God to bless your finances you have to give your tithes. 10% belongs to the Lord.
- Save for emergencies: Unexpected events happen, so plan and save for them.
- Be accountable: Be accountable for the budget that you put in place.
And remember: everything you have is for God. Ask Him before making big purchasing decisions.
Journal:
In your prayer journal, list items that you are waiting to buy. Record how God answers and provides. If you are married, discuss with your spouse and decide what the guidelines will be for making non-budgeted purchases.
Training:
Identify the top three areas where your undesignated money is being spent. What sacrifices or steps will you make this week, towards bringing your spending under control and getting rid of debt?
