Being Intentional With Time

March 5, 2025

Hey Clawson family!

Song:

Scripture:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT) – "For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

Proverbs 16:9 (NLT) – "We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps."

Devotional:

Time is one of the most precious gifts God has given us, yet it is also one of the easiest things to waste. We often find ourselves caught in the rush of daily life, juggling responsibilities, commitments, and distractions that seem to pull us in every direction. But have we ever stopped to ask ourselves: Am I being intentional with the time God has entrusted to me?

Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90:12 is a reminder that our days on earth are limited. He asks God to teach us to number our days—to live with an awareness that time is fleeting and that wisdom comes when we steward it well. Being intentional with our time doesn’t mean filling every moment with busyness; rather, it means aligning our time with God’s purposes.

Practical Ways to Be Intentional with Time

1. Start with God

Before diving into the day’s tasks, spend time in prayer and the Word. Seeking God first (Matthew 6:33) helps set the tone for everything else.

2. Prioritize What Matters Most

Not everything urgent is important. Take time to evaluate your schedule and ensure that faith, family, relationships, and meaningful work aren’t neglected in the busyness of life.

3. Avoid Time Wasters

Social media, TV, and distractions can consume hours before we realize it. While rest and recreation are important, be mindful of activities that drain your time without adding value.

4. Set Intentional Goals

Whether in spiritual growth, relationships, career, or ministry, set goals that align with God’s calling for your life. Make each day purposeful.

5. Embrace Rest and Sabbath

Being intentional with time includes making space for rest. God Himself modeled rest on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2). A well-rested heart is more effective in serving Him.

Final Thought

Each day is an opportunity to glorify God. Let’s commit to living intentionally, making the most of the time He has given us.

Journal Questions:

  1. What season of life are you currently in, and how does that affect your time management?

  2. What are three things that are most important for you to spend time on?

  3. What distractions keep you from focusing on what truly matter?

Training:

Write down three priorities for your time this week. Make a plan to give your best time and energy to those things, rather than just reacting to what feels urgent.

Lord, I ask for Your wisdom in planning my days. Help me to be intentional with my time and to seek Your guidance in every decision. I submit my plans to You and trust that You will direct my steps. In Jesus' name, Amen.
