Boundaries Help Balance Access and Responsibility

May 2, 2024

Hey Clawson Family!

 Song:

Scripture:

Proverbs 25:28 NLT

28 A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.

Psalms 16:6-8 NIV

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

    surely I have a delightful inheritance.

7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;

    even at night my heart instructs me.

8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.

    With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Devotional:

Boundaries establishes who gets access and responsible in our lives. This comes naturally with physical things. We would never give  access and responsibility to our bank accounts or gives out keys to our house, and vehicles.

We are not going to do that why?

The privilege of access comes with the weight of responsibility.

We feel very comfortable doing that with the physical things in our lives. We just find it a little more challenging to set boundaries with emotional or relational things in our lives.

Giving people access that you don’t trust is unwise. It can be challenging to  find the  balance in all the things in life. Today give yourself the permission to establish healthy boundaries for the sake of healthy balance. It is ok to say No, I can't do that. Not that I don’t want to, but I am trying to find a healthy balance.

Journal:

Do you need to learn to tell people “No”? In your journal today write down somethings that you need to say no to in order to bring balance to your life.

Training:

Father,

I pray for my relationships. There are times when I feel that I am being mistreated or drained by others. God, I need your wisdom to know when I need to step away or reestablish a boundary. Father, help me to never be guilty of removing people out of irritation or a lack of patience. Help me to live in peace and to be a peacemaker. Show me how to love people like you and respond in ways that honor you. Lord, may I never shift a relationship without your lead. I surrender my relationships to you and embrace the process. Bring those closer to me who need to be in this time of my life.

 In Jesus’ name, amen.
