Scripture:
Romans 12:2
2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
2 Corinthians 13:5
5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you[a]; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.
Devotion:
One of the reasons church isn’t working is because we have began to compromise the gospel of Christ! Why is this happening?
There are generally 3 reasons why Christians compromise:
1. Fear of rejection – the fear of being alone or pointed out
2. Pleasure – we just want to feel “happy”
3. Laziness – too lazy to fight for what God believes and you give in
4 Stages of Compromise
1. Attraction – something gets your attention
2. Justification – we make reasons for the wrongs to be okay, because of the desire
3. Indulgence – restraints are removed, and the conscience is hardened
4. Re-definition – we redefine what wrong is, according to the Bible or present in our lives, to remove guilt
Compromise is simply changing the question to fit the answer. As Christians, we should not be afraid to be bold and uncompromising for God. We should live for God and be transforming our minds to what He desires every day. We cannot be conformed to this world. It is our job to show the attitude and character God through our actions.
People can not recieve salvation without the truth. If we don’t give it to them or we are failing at our jobs. We don’t recieve salvation from works but through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and as Lord. We need to be leading people to Christ!
We must choose to let go of the desires of our flesh and give God more room to grow within us. No one should compromise by giving God less room or by staying stagnant within their relationship with God.
We cannot afford to compromise! Our lives, the lives of sinners, and the lives of other Christians depend on the Word of God being shared in truth and witnessed through our actions.
Live an uncompromising bold life for Jesus Christ!
Journal:
In your journal today give yourself an honest evaluation. Look at the reasons and stages of compromise. Are there areas in your life where you are tempted to compromise the gospel? Write down what those are. Ask God how you can set up safe guards against those temptations.
Training:
In order to allow ourselves to not be compromised we have to be intentional! Ask God to help you have the boldness and self control to not allow ourselves to conform! Once you see that you are trying to justify actions, or re-define what is right and wrong it should throw up a red flag! You need to immediately go to God in prayer and ask for clarification! Look in Scripture! Don’t allow yourself to rewrite the gospel to fit your need. We must conform to the word not conform the word to our lifestyle!
