Devotional:

Discipleship Happens At Clawson through relationships.

What is Discipleship? It means being more and more like Jesus every single day. Do you want to be closer to Jesus tomorrow than you are today?

Jesus knew that creating disciples was the goal.

Getting people to pray a prayer of salvation was never the goal. That is not even in scripture. People acknowledging Jesus to be king and savior is, and that is not the goal either. Satan acknowledges that. Acknowledging Jesus as the savior is the first step in the journey.

People becoming Bible scholars was not the goal. If that had been the case, the Pharisees and Sadducees would have been the perfect guys to be Jesus’s disciples. Learning His word is a step in the journey. But that is not the goal. Creating disciples was and still is the goal.

What does a disciple do? Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. A disciple follows the teachings of Jesus and the plan He has for their life. His plan is for them to become His disciple who makes disciples.

How does that work? Pastor Christian described this very well in his sermon about Discipleship. It works through Relationships.

I began to be discipled the moment a lady who loved Jesus said to me, “I like your lip ring.” I just didn't know it. She was building a relationship with me, to take me closer to Jesus. Because she cared about my soul.

Christian began to be discipled in the hallway at the church when I sat down and had an hour-long conversation with him that had nothing to do with Jesus. Why? Because he wasn't interested in Jesus at that moment. So, I just wanted him to get closer to Jesus.

Dad became interested in Jesus because of his relationship with my mom. He wanted to raise his family in church, which led to a relationship with Jesus, which led to a relationship with a pastor who trained him to be a disciple.

It starts with a relationship with Jesus. You need a relationship with someone more like Jesus than you, then you need to form relationships with people that you can help them become more like Jesus! It is the circle of Life in Christianity - When Discipleship happens.

Journal:

In your journal, write down the name of a person who could disciple you. Then, write down the name of a person that you could begin to disciple. What is holding you back from starting a relationship with them? Ask God to help you!

Training:

How do we make discipleship happen today? It is so simple. Your challenge today is to join a ministry: men's, women’s, youth Core, or Young adults.

Start a conversation. Build a relationship.
