Expression of Worship
October 10, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
John 4:24 New Living Translation
24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
Devotional:
I can feel a number of ways inside, but the only way you will know how I feel is if I express how I feel to you.
If you could only see my face, what would my expression show you that I feel right now?
You would not know for sure; you would have to guess. But when I express myself to you, it causes you to respond.
If I push you and get angry with you, then it causes you to respond.
If I hug you and tell you I love you it causes you to respond.
If I give you a gift through my expression of praise, then it causes you to respond.
Did you know that a smile is one of the most contagious things in the world? When you express yourself to someone, they respond.
In every relationship that I have, with my parents, with my friends, with my staff, with my kids and wife. How I express myself to them causes them to respond to my expression, and what I have found to be true is that when we express ourselves to God with all of our hearts, not caring what others think or feel, it causes Him to respond. We see it all in scripture. The walls of Jericho coming down, God fighting battles, the Prison doors falling off, and the list goes on. I could keep going all day on this. God responds to us when we express ourselves to him in worship.
But I have also found that when we do not express ourselves to God, he does not respond. So, the question becomes, how do you want God to respond to your worship?
At Clawson, we express ourselves to God in all kinds of ways (We like to PARTY) through singing, dancing, clapping, lifting our hands, bowing on our knees, giving, pouring out our hearts at the altars, playing instruments, waving flags. It is not necessarily the expression that you are using that God is pleased or not pleased with. It is that you are expressing your praise and worship to him with all your heart in a way that is meaningful to you.
Worship never ends in our lives; it just changes our format.
Ship happens at Clawson through worship: privately giving our lives and bodies to God and allowing him to transform and use us, and publicly through our expressions of worship to him as we pour out our hearts to the God of the Universe.
I want to encourage you to bring that to God every week when we get together in worship. To worship Him in spirit and in truth. To express yourself to God in a way that causes a response.
Journal:
Write a note to God thanking Him for everything He’s done for you.
Training
God,
You’re our rock when we’re broken, our way when we’re lost, and our light on the darkest day. You are worth far more than every ounce of our worship, and every form of praise.
Thank You, good Father. Amen
