Faith Over Fear

May 23, 2025

Hey Clawson Family!

Scripture:

Matthew 14:29-30 (NIV)

“Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”

Devotional:

Peter stepped out in faith and walked on water. But as soon as he looked at the storm, fear took over and he began to sink. Sound familiar? We start with excitement and courage, but then life happens. The wind blows, waves rise, and our gaze shifts from Jesus to the storm. It’s not that the storm got worse—it’s that our focus changed.

Fear will always try to hijack your faith. But you can reframe your response. Don’t ignore the storm, but don’t let it define you either. Keep your eyes locked on Jesus. When your thoughts start spiraling, pause and redirect them. Fix your eyes on the One who never sinks, never fails, and never leaves.

Journal Questions:

  1. Where in my life have I let fear reframe my faith?

  2. How can I shift my focus back to Jesus in that area?

Challenge:

When fear creeps in today, pause and pray: “Jesus, I fix my eyes on You.” Then take one small step of faith, even if it’s scary.

Prayer:

Lord, I want to be like Peter when he first stepped out—not perfect, but willing. Help me keep my focus on You when storms come. I trust that even when I begin to sink, You are always near to lift me up. Strengthen my faith today. Amen.
