Finding Your People in the Body of Christ
January 21, 2025
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” – Romans 12:4-5
Devotional:
The body of Christ is a beautiful tapestry, woven together with different gifts, personalities, and callings. Each person has a unique role to play, and the diversity within the church reflects God’s boundless creativity. However, amidst this vast family, you may find yourself naturally drawn to a smaller group—of “your people” who share your passions, values, and spiritual journey.
Even in the early church, we see examples of this. Paul and Peter, both key leaders, had distinct callings. Paul was called to minister primarily to the Gentiles, while Peter focused on the Jews. Their callings were different, and they operated within unique communities, yet they were united under the same mission: to glorify Christ and spread the gospel.
It’s important to recognize that it’s okay to have a closer circle within the larger body. These are the people who challenge and inspire you, who understand your heart and your calling. They are your spiritual family within the family. But as you embrace your people, remember that unity is still essential. We are all part of the same body, and every member is valuable, even if they are not part of your inner circle.
Celebrate the diversity in the church.
Appreciate the gifts and callings of others, even when they differ from your own. And as you walk with your people, let love for the whole body of Christ guide your interactions. When we honor each other’s differences and stay united in Christ, we reflect His glory to the world.
Journal:
In your journal answer the following three questions:
1. Who are the people God has placed in your life as part of your tribe? How do they encourage you in your walk with Christ?
2. Are there ways you can celebrate and support others in the church who have different callings or passions than your own?
3. How can you contribute to unity in the body of Christ while still embracing your unique calling and relationships?
Training:
Pray for discernment to recognize who your people are within God’s family. Look for people who encourage your walk with Christ and inspire you to grow.
Lord, thank You for the diversity in the body of Christ. Help me to embrace my unique calling and find the people You’ve placed in my life to walk alongside me. Teach me to honor and celebrate the gifts of others, even when they differ from mine. Keep my heart united with Your love so that I may always work toward unity in Your church. In Jesus’ name, amen
