Give Your Children to God and Trust Him
May 16, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture
1 Samuel 1:24-28 New Living Translation
24 When the child was weaned, Hannah took him to the Tabernacle in Shiloh. They brought along a three-year-old bull[a] for the sacrifice and a basket[b] of flour and some wine. 25 After sacrificing the bull, they brought the boy to Eli. 26 “Sir, do you remember me?” Hannah asked. “I am the very woman who stood here several years ago praying to the Lord. 27 I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. 28 Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they[c] worshiped the Lord there.
1 Samuel 2:19-21 New Living Translation
19 Each year his mother made a small coat for him and brought it to him when she came with her husband for the sacrifice. 20 Before they returned home, Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord give you other children to take the place of this one she gave to the Lord.[a]” 21 And the Lord blessed Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.
Devotional:
Hannah made a promise to God, if you will bless me with a son, I will give him back to you. God gives her a son and she gives Samuel back to God. Not only was this a huge blessing to God's people because Samuel would become that prophet that annoints Paul as King of Israel, and King David as the King of Israel. This was possible because Hannah trusted God with Samuel.
God has better plans for our kids, our loved ones, and even ourselves than we do. As parents we want our children to be the smartest, get great grades, go to College, to be the best at sports, have a luxurious life, etc... But nothing is as important as them following Jesus and the plans that He has for them.
We stop forcing your plans on our children, on our loved ones and even on ourselves! We have to let go of our will and surrender to His will. Give your kids, your loved ones and yourself to God and trust him with the future.
Moses’ mom put Moses in a basket in the water, and trusted God with His plans for him. Moses became the deliverer of the people of Israel. Samuel’s mom trusted God, and Samuel became one of the greatest prophets. John the baptist's mom trusted God with John's life, and I bet his mom would have never chosen for her son to wander the wilderness eating wild locusts and honey, but God used John to prepare the way for Jesus. Mary, Jesus’ mom trusted God with Jesus, and He became the savior of the world. Think of what God could do with our kids, our loved ones and us if we would stop pushing our will! We need to encourage our kids and loved ones to seek out His will for their life. We also need to be seeking his will for our own lives
We need to stop asking ourselves what is best for my kids, my loved one, myself and we need to start asking ourselves what is God’s will and plan!
The goal is not to make our kids, our loved ones or ourselves something great in this world, but something great for the Lord.
Journal:
Are you trusting your abilities to protect your child(ren), your love ones, or yourself more than you're trusting God's? In your journal today write down some ways you could start changing that perspective
Training:
Think about your top three fears. Ask God to replace those fears with trust and help you live in courageous faith that He is in control.
