Giving Freely, Receiving Abundantly

February 20, 2025

Hey Clawson family!

Song:

Scripture:

Luke 6:38 (NLT)

“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

Devotional:

Generosity is a principle that runs throughout the Bible. When we give freely—whether it be our time, resources, love, or encouragement—we open the door to God’s abundant blessings in our lives. The world often teaches a mindset of scarcity, where giving means losing. But in God’s kingdom, giving is the key to receiving.

When we give freely, without expecting anything in return, we reflect God’s own heart. He is the ultimate giver—He gave us life, provision, and most importantly, His Son, Jesus Christ. God’s economy doesn’t work like the world’s; He promises that when we give with a cheerful and willing heart, He will return it in greater measure.

This doesn’t mean we give just to receive, but rather, we give because we trust in God’s faithfulness. When we hold onto our possessions too tightly, we limit what God can do through us. But when we give generously, we create space for God to pour His blessings into our lives—blessings that go beyond material wealth and touch every area of our existence.

Generosity is not just about giving money; it’s about having a heart that reflects God’s love. When we give with an open hand—whether it’s to the church, to the needy, or to others around us—God promises to bless our giving. Giving is a form of worship, a way to show our gratitude for all God has given us.

Journal:

Answer the following questions in your journal

1. Is there an area in your life where God is calling you to be more generous?

2. Have you ever experienced a time when giving freely led to unexpected blessings?

3. How can you cultivate a heart of generosity in your daily life.

Training:

Look for an opportunity this week to give freely—whether through finances, encouragement, acts of service, or time. Trust that God will supply your needs and bless you in ways you never expected.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the ultimate giver. help me to have a generous heart. Let me give not out of obligation, but out of love for You and for others. Help me to give freely, trusting in Your abundant provision. Teach me to have a generous heart, one that reflects Your love and grace. May my giving be an act of worship and a testimony of Your faithfulness. Open my eyes to opportunities to bless others, and may I always remember that in giving, I receive more of You. May my giving be a reflection of Your grace in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
