Growth Hurts, but It’s Worth It
January 31, 2025
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” – Hebrews 12:11 (NIV)
Devotional:
Growth is never easy. Whether it’s physical, emotional, or spiritual, true growth requires stretching, breaking, and stepping outside of our comfort zones. In nature, a seed must crack open before it can take root. Muscles must endure strain before they become stronger. Likewise, our spiritual journey often involves seasons of discomfort, discipline, and refining.
God never wastes our pain. The trials we face—whether they be disappointments, hardships, or even failures—are often the very tools He uses to shape us into who He created us to be. James 1:2-4 reminds us to consider trials as joy because they produce perseverance, making us mature and complete. The difficulties you face today are not signs of God’s absence; rather, they are evidence of His work in your life.
Think of Joseph, who endured betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment before stepping into his God-ordained purpose. His journey was painful, but it prepared him to lead a nation and save lives. Your struggles may feel unbearable at times, but they are not meaningless. God is using them to grow you, strengthen your faith, and prepare you for something greater.
So, when growth hurts, don’t resist it—embrace it. Trust that God is working all things for your good (Romans 8:28). Though the process may be painful, the result is worth it: a deeper relationship with Him, greater wisdom, and a faith that stands firm no matter what comes your way.
Growth often comes with pain—letting go of old habits, enduring challenges, and stepping out in faith can feel uncomfortable. But those growing pains are necessary for maturity. Like physical exercise, spiritual discipline stretches and strengthens us so we can handle more and do more for God’s kingdom.
Stay encouraged—your pain has a purpose, and the growth God is leading you through will be worth it.
Journal:
When growth feels painful, don’t give up. Instead, press into God through prayer and His Word. Journal about a difficult season you’ve experienced and reflect on how it helped you grow closer to God.
Training:
Heavenly Father, I know that growth can be painful, but I trust You are using every trial to shape me into the person You want me to be. Give me strength to endure, faith to trust, and eyes to see Your purpose in my struggles. Help me to grow in grace, wisdom, and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
