Healthy Boundaries Keep Your Heart Pure and Your Head Sane

April 30, 2024

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Proverbs 4:23 New Living Translation

23 Guard your heart above all else,    for it determines the course of your life.

Devotional:

You are required to forgive everyone, but you are not required to tolerate everyone.

For example…. If you have a biological brother is a raging alcoholic that gets off of work everyday, drinks, gets angry and is abusive to those in his home. You love your brother. You are not going to hold those things against him, but you don’t have to take your kids there for christmas.

We can’t allow and tolerate things in our life and then get mad at God. We blame him for allowing these things to happen when what would fix the problem is putting boundaries up in our lives. Not having the boundary is making us insane.

We don’t have to hang out with people that manipulate or gaslight. People that we don’t trust. We have to forgive them, we have to love them, we cannot hold things in our hearts towards them, but we don’t have to tolerate them.

When we tolerate things, or people that we should have a boundary with, it can cause us to have an unhealthy relationship. Seeds get sown that should not be sown in our hearts and makes us feel like we are going insane. Healthy boundaries protects our hearts and our sanity.

The bible says love your enemy, pray for your enemy, bless your enemy, it doesn't say they get to live in your house.

Journal:

In your your journal write down where in your life you struggle with setting and maintaining boundary lines.

Training:

Father,

Please forgive me for all the times I’ve tried to step into Your place in the lives of the people I love. Today, I’m releasing my loved ones into Your hands. You are their Savior, not me. Show me anywhere I need to draw healthy boundary lines, and help me maintain them with humility and love.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Start to overcome your hesitations that boundaries are cruel or impossible by resetting your perspective.
