How to Find Your People

January 21, 2025

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)

“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”

Devotional:

Finding your people—those who will encourage, strengthen, and walk alongside you in faith—requires more than just waiting for relationships to happen. It takes intentionality and faith. In a world that often feels disconnected, building meaningful connections starts with stepping out and trusting God to guide you.

The journey begins with prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to individuals who share your values and faith. This might mean joining a small group at church, volunteering in your community, or simply engaging in conversations with those around you. Look for opportunities to connect with people who can challenge and inspire you to grow both spiritually and emotionally.

The right community can be life-changing. These are people who pray with you, laugh with you, cry with you, and remind you of God’s promises when you feel lost. But finding this kind of connection often requires intentionality. Are you willing to step out, take risks, and open your heart to the people God may be sending your way?

True friendships aren’t always easy. They require effort, vulnerability, and a willingness to invest in others. But the reward is worth it. As Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, when we surround ourselves with godly friends, we refine one another. These relationships help us see our blind spots, encourage us when we’re weary, and celebrate with us in times of joy.

Sometimes, finding your people means letting go of relationships that no longer reflect God’s heart. It may also mean being the kind of friend you’re looking for—someone who listens, uplifts, and loves unconditionally.

Take time this week to evaluate the relationships in your life. Are you surrounding yourself with people who uplift and sharpen you? Are you being that kind of friend to others? Pray for wisdom and courage to invest in the connections that matter most.

 Training:

Practical Steps to Finding Your People:

1. Pray for Guidance: Ask God to lead you to the people He has purposed for you. Trust His timing.

2. Be Vulnerable: Building deep relationships requires openness. Share your story and allow others to share theirs.

3. Practice Patience: True connections take time to develop. Don’t rush; instead, trust God to grow them organically.

4. Stay Rooted in Christ: Let your relationships be anchored in God’s love and truth, reflecting His character.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for creating us to live in community. I ask for Your guidance in finding the people You’ve placed in my life to walk this journey with me. Help me to trust Your timing and be the kind of friend who reflects Your love. Teach me to be open, patient, and intentional as I build relationships that honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
