Living as a Citizen of Heaven

August 30, 2024

Hey, Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Philippians 3:20 NLT

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

Ephesians 2:19 NLT

So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens, along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.

Devotional:

As believers, our primary identity is found in Christ. We are no longer outsiders but members of God’s family, citizens of heaven. This identity is not earned; it is a gift of grace. We are chosen, set apart, and deeply loved by God. Understanding this identity shapes how we see ourselves and interact with the world.

As citizens of heaven, we are called to live differently from the world. Our thoughts, actions, and attitudes should reflect our heavenly values. Instead of conforming to the patterns of this world, we are to seek God’s will in all we do, letting His Word guide our decisions and behavior.

Our citizenship in heaven comes with a glorious hope. We look forward to a future where there will be no more pain, sorrow, or death. This hope is confident because it is anchored in Christ’s promises. As we navigate the challenges of this life, we can hold on to this hope, knowing that our future is secure and glorious.

Living as citizens of heaven means constantly realigning our lives with God’s will. This heavenly citizenship anchors our identity, lifestyle, and hope. This world is not our ultimate home; we are here to reflect God’s kingdom until Christ returns. Let us live with an eternal perspective, making choices that honor God and point others to Him.

Journal:

In your journal, answer the following questions:

  • In what areas of your life do you need to align more closely with the values of heaven?

  • How does recognizing your identity as a citizen of heaven influence your daily life and decisions?

  •  How does the hope of heaven impact the way you face difficulties and challenges today?

  • What changes do you need to make to live more fully as a citizen of heaven?

Training:

Heavenly Father

Thank You for the incredible gift of being a citizen of heaven. Help me to embrace this identity fully, living each day in a way that reflects who I am in Christ. May my life be a testament to Your grace and love. I desire to live a life that honors You. Help me set my mind on things above and live out Your kingdom's values in my everyday life. Transform my heart and mind to reflect Your love and truth in all I do. Guide my steps, renew my mind, and fill my heart with hope as I await the return of my Savior. Help me to be a light in this world, reflecting Your love and truth to those around me.

In Jesus name, Amen.
