Loving Like Jesus in Difficult Relationships
December 27, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)
Devotional:
Loving others is central to our faith, but let’s be honest—it’s not always easy, especially when relationships become strained. Jesus calls us to love not just when it’s convenient but also when it’s uncomfortable. His love is the standard: unconditional, sacrificial, and patient.
Jesus loved even those who misunderstood, betrayed, and abandoned Him. In His earthly ministry, He faced rejection from His hometown, betrayal by one of His disciples, and hostility from the very people He came to save. Yet He chose to love anyway, praying for His enemies and forgiving those who hurt Him.
When relationships challenge us, we are invited to lean into this Christlike love. It doesn’t mean ignoring boundaries or tolerating abuse.
Rather, it means reflecting Jesus’ heart: seeking the good of others, showing compassion, and praying even for those who hurt us. It’s not about our strength but His power working through us.
Relationships with unbelievers, especially difficult ones, can test your faith. But Jesus modeled love even for those who opposed Him. Loving like Jesus means choosing grace over retaliation, prayer over bitterness, and light over darkness. Your love can reveal Christ to even the hardest of hearts.
Journal:
Is there someone in your life who challenges your faith or patience? In your journal, Pray for them today. Ask God to help you love them like Jesus would.

Practical Steps to Love Like Jesus:
1. Pray for Wisdom and Strength
Ask God to help you see others through His eyes and to give you the strength to respond with grace.
2. Practice Forgiveness
Forgiveness doesn’t condone wrongdoing but releases you from bitterness. Jesus forgave freely; we’re called to do the same (Ephesians 4:32).
3. Respond with Kindness
Instead of reacting in frustration, choose kindness. A gentle response can diffuse tension and reflect Christ’s love (Proverbs 15:1).
4. Set Boundaries in Love
Loving like Jesus doesn’t mean tolerating toxic behavior. Boundaries can be an act of love, fostering respect and accountability.
5. Reflect on Christ’s Example
Regularly meditate on how Jesus loved. Let His example inspire and guide your interactions.
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me unconditionally, even when I fall short. Teach me to love like You, especially when relationships are hard. Give me grace to forgive, patience to endure, and wisdom to respond in ways that honor You. May Your love shine through me, drawing others closer to You. Amen
