Monday: Fix Your Thoughts on What is Good
February 11, 2025
Hey Clawson family!
Song:
Scripture:
Philippians 4:8-9 (NLT)
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Devotional:
Our minds are a battlefield, constantly bombarded with worries, negativity, and distractions. It’s easy to let anxiety, fear, and frustration take root in our thoughts, especially when life feels overwhelming. But God calls us to something higher—to fix our thoughts on what is good.
Paul’s words in Philippians 4:8 remind us that we have a choice in what we dwell on. Instead of focusing on what is wrong, we can meditate on what is right. Instead of replaying negative experiences, we can shift our attention to what is pure and praiseworthy.
This doesn’t mean ignoring reality or pretending problems don’t exist. Rather, it means choosing to see through the lens of faith. When we focus on God’s truth, His goodness, and His promises, our perspective changes. We experience His peace, even in the midst of uncertainty.
How do we fix our thoughts on what is good?
• Fill your mind with God’s Word – Meditate on Scripture and let it shape your thinking.
• Practice gratitude – Reflect on God’s blessings rather than dwelling on what’s lacking.
• Guard your heart – Be mindful of what you allow into your mind through media, conversations, and influences.
• Speak life – Use your words to uplift, encourage, and declare God’s truth over your situation.
When we choose to focus on what is good, we align our thoughts with God’s perspective. His peace will guard our hearts and minds, and we will reflect His light to those around us.
Our thoughts shape the way we experience life. When we dwell on negativity, anxiety, or fear, it robs us of peace. But when we fix our minds on what is true, honorable, and praiseworthy, we invite the peace of God into our lives. The key is not just thinking differently but putting it into practice. We must intentionally choose to focus on God’s goodness daily.
Journal:
What are some things in your life right now that are excellent and praiseworthy? How can you make a habit of focusing on them daily? Answer these questions in your journal.
Training:
Lord, help me to fix my thoughts on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. When negativity tries to creep in, remind me to shift my focus back to You. Fill my heart with gratitude and my mind with Your truth so that I may walk in peace and reflect Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen
