Recognizing the Value of Time

March 3, 2025

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Psalm 90:12 (NLT) – "Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom."

Psalm 90:12 (NIV) - Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

James 4:14 (NLT) – "How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone."

Devotional:

Time is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. Unlike money or possessions, we cannot earn more of it, store it up, or retrieve it once it’s spent. Every moment that passes is an opportunity—one that we either use wisely or let slip away.

Psalm 90:12 reminds us to number our days, meaning we should be mindful of how we spend our time. Life is short, and each day is an opportunity to grow in our faith, serve others, and draw closer to God. The apostle Paul also urges us in Ephesians 5:16 to redeem the time because the days are evil. This means we must make the most of our moments, prioritizing what truly matters.

How Can We Recognize the Value of Time?

  1. Prioritize God First – Spending time in prayer, worship, and reading the Word strengthens our spiritual foundation. Matthew 6:33 reminds us to seek first the kingdom of God.

  2. Be Intentional in Relationships – Time spent with loved ones, encouraging and uplifting others, is never wasted. We are called to love and invest in people.

  3. Use Your Gifts for God’s Glory – Each day presents opportunities to serve and glorify God through our talents, kindness, and good works.

  4. Avoid Wasting Time on Distractions – The world is full of distractions that pull us away from our purpose. Let’s be mindful of how we use our time.

Journal Questions:

  1. In what areas of your life do you feel like you waste the most time?

  2. How can you remind yourself daily to see time as a gift from God?

  3. What is one change you can make this week to be more intentional with your time?

Training:

Time is a precious, non-renewable resource. Unlike money, which comes and goes, time spent is gone forever. God calls us to be wise in recognizing how fleeting life is and to use our time with purpose. Each moment presents an opportunity to glorify God and fulfill His calling in our lives.

Be intentional today about valuing your time. Set a reminder every few hours to pause and reflect on how you're spending your time. Are you investing it in things that truly matter?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,  help me to see the value of every moment You give me. Teach me to use my time wisely and not waste it on things that don’t honor You. Give me a heart of wisdom to number my days and live with intention. In Jesus' name, Amen.
