Rewrite the Story You Tell Yourself

May 22, 2025

Hey Clawson Family!

Scripture:

Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”

Devotional:

We all have internal narratives—stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what we can do, and how God sees us. The problem? Many of those stories come from wounds, not God’s Word. If we don’t identify and rewrite them, they’ll limit what God wants to do in and through us. Just like the Israelites still thought like slaves even though they were free, we can carry an old mindset in a new season.

Paul could’ve framed his imprisonment as a tragedy, but instead he saw it as a divine setup. His story changed because he chose to view it through God’s perspective. Today, identify a narrative you’ve been believing that doesn’t align with God’s truth—and rewrite it with the Word.

Journal Questions:

  1. What story have I been telling myself that isn’t from God?

  2. What new story does God want me to believe instead?

Challenge:

Write a short declaration that reflects the truth God says about you. Say it out loud every time your old story resurfaces.

Prayer:

Jesus, I surrender the story I’ve been telling myself that isn’t from You. Replace it with Your truth. Help me walk in the identity You gave me, not the one the world or my past has assigned me. I choose to believe Your Word above all. Amen.
