Selfish People

March 21, 2024

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

John 3:30

New Living Translation

30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

Devotion:

Selfishness is usually the main cause of a lot of church hurt. It can also be the root  problem within marriage and family life, and close relationships. Selfishness ruins lives and destroys marriages.

Selfishness is when  we only caring about our own needs, wants, and desires.

It’s so easy to see this as a problem that someone else has. We never want to consider it may be a problem with us. Everyone can be selfish! You can be so preoccupied with your own interests or problems that you are oblivious to other people’s needs, desires and feelings. T

Paul wrote to the church at Philippi—and his message still speaks to us today:

Philippians 2:3-4

New Living Translation

3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

He’s basically saying: Listen. You are not the most important person in the world. It’s other people—not you. Care about them as much as you care about yourselves.

Journal:

In your journal today be honest and write down some ways that you have been selfish in your life. Ask God to help you recognize when you are being selfish and allow him to guide you into a life of servitude instead.

Training:

Serving others is a good weapon against selfishness. When we serve another person, our focus is on someone else and their needs. This week find a way you can serve others, your family, your friends, your church. Take the focus off of self and onto others
