Set Goals for Growth

January 29, 2025

Hey Clawson family

Song:

Scripture:

Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift. — 1 Timothy 4:13-14 (NIV)

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18

Devotional:

Growth is a natural part of life. Just as a tree does not remain a sapling but matures with time, God calls us to grow spiritually. This growth does not happen by accident—it requires intentionality, discipline, and faithfulness. Setting goals for growth means seeking God’s guidance in our spiritual journey and committing to steps that bring us closer to Him.

Consider Paul’s words in Philippians 3:14: “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Paul understood the importance of setting his sights on spiritual progress, striving to deepen his faith and obedience to God.

Growth goals could include:

• Spending more time in prayer and studying the Bible

• Strengthening faith through trust in God’s plan

• Developing Christlike character by practicing love, patience, and forgiveness

• Serving others with a heart of humility and generosity

God desires that we continually mature in our walk with Him, growing in grace and knowledge. By setting spiritual goals, we create space for God to transform us and use us for His purposes.

Growth doesn’t happen by accident—it requires intentionality. Just as we set goals for our physical health or finances, we need to set spiritual goals. What steps are you taking to grow in your faith? Have you made a commitment to read Scripture, join a small group, or serve others? Spiritual growth thrives in consistency, not complacency.

Journal:

Write down one short-term spiritual goal and one long-term goal. Share them with someone who can help hold you accountable.

Training:

Heavenly Father, I desire to grow in my relationship with You. Help me set goals that draw me closer to You and shape me into the person You have called me to be. Give me the discipline to stay committed and the grace to keep moving forward even when challenges arise. May my growth bring glory to Your name. Amen
