The Power of Testimonies
September 4, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
Revelation 12:11 New Living Translation
11 And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.
Devotional:
The actual definition of testimony is the evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something. This means when you are giving your testimony of what God has done in your life, you’re telling people that there is proof that God exists through what he has done in you. And He wants to do that same thing in their lives to. If you are living the life you are testifying to, then there is power in your testimony.
I do believe that some people get confused. They say that they have given their life to Jesus and they are following him. They say they are going all in, but they go to the bar and get drunk with their friends. They are having premarital sex. They are doing drugs at parties on the weekends. They say they are following Jesus with their mouth but don’t live it with their life, so they take all of the power out of their testimony.
The Bible tells us that they defeated him by the power of our testimonies. Who did they defeat?? The enemy. HOW?? By the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.
That means every time I share my testimony of how God changed my life, I am defeating the enemy. Every time I live out with my life what I say with my mouth, I am defeating the enemy. Every time we celebrate what God is doing by baptizing or dedication, we are defeating the enemy. So, if you don’t mind, I would like to spend just a minute defeating the enemy by sharing what God has recently been doing in me.
My testimony:
For years I've felt like I was living under my brother's shadows. I got to thinking, " who am I?" and I never really got an answer. For the past year I have been drifting further and further away from God. I had started cussing. I started hanging around the wrong crowd. I had a major lust addiction. I just felt so lonely at that time.
Heading to youth camp I wasn't expecting anything to happen or change in my life. We get to a worship night and God was really moving in the room. I saw one of my best friend’s laying on the ground crying. I just thought man I want some of that. I start worshiping but at the end of the day I still didn’t want to go all in with God.
We get to miracle night and there was a line on the ground in the worship center. Our youth pastor said when you feel like you’re ready cross the line and leave everything else behind. I said a prayer and I asked God to tell me when I was ready. Finally I felt like I was ready so I cross the line. At this point i'm in a little ball crying. I’ve never felt more loved or cared about a day in my life. He told me my calling that night too. I’m a pastor! I’m going all in.
I cut off all the friends that were going to hold me back. I stopped cussing. I even stopped that lust addiction, and that was hard! I promise if you let God into your life, He will turn your life upside down just like He did for me.
I shared this testimony with the youth a few months ago. One of my best friends heard it and decided she wanted to give her life to Jesus. Then, this past weekend, her parents gave their lives to Jesus. This Sunday, they are planning to get baptized and dedicate their family to the Lord. I know as they share their testimonies, it will be a domino effect where their friend's lives are changed, and their friend's lives are changed, and so on.
I want to encourage you don’t hold back from sharing what God has done or God is doing. There is power in your testimony.
