The Weight of Our Words

March 18, 2025

Hey Clawson family!

Song:

Scripture:

“But I tell you, if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be judged. If you say bad things to a brother or sister, you will be judged by the council. And if you call someone a fool, you will be in danger of the fire of hell.” – Matthew 5:22 (ERV)

Devotional:

Jesus takes our words seriously because they have the power to build up or tear down. A careless insult or an unkind word can deeply wound someone, sometimes more than we realize. Often, we justify our words, blaming others instead of taking responsibility for how we speak. But God holds us accountable for the way we treat people—our words included.

Journal Questions:

1. Have you ever said something in anger that you later regretted?

2. Is there someone you need to apologize to for the way you’ve spoken to them?

3. How can you be more intentional about speaking life and not harm?

Challenge:

Before you speak today, pause and ask yourself: “Will this bring life or cause harm?” If you’ve hurt someone with your words, go to them and apologize sincerely.

Prayer:

Lord, help me guard my tongue and be mindful of my words. I don’t want to be careless with the way I speak to others. If I’ve hurt someone, give me the courage to apologize and make things right. Fill my heart with kindness so that my words reflect Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
