Thoughts That Lie

May 13, 2025

Hey Clawson Family

Scripture:

Romans 7:15 (NLT)"I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate."

Devotional:

Have you ever caught yourself asking, “Why did I do that again?” Paul’s transparency in this verse is refreshing because it’s so relatable. He’s not excusing sin — he’s diagnosing the real issue: there’s a lie underneath his actions. Sometimes we act out not because we don’t love God, but because we haven’t identified or corrected the lie we believed first.

Your behaviors are not random — they are the fruit of your thoughts. What you believe determines how you behave. So if you’re stuck in a cycle you hate, stop trying harder and start thinking deeper. What lie have you let live rent-free in your mind? Maybe it’s “I’ll never change” or “God doesn’t care.” Replace the lie with truth. When your thoughts are healthy, your actions will begin to follow.

Journal Questions:

  • What negative behaviors have you been repeating?

  • What might be the lie at the root of those behaviors?

Challenge:

Write down one lie you've believed, and then write a scripture that tells you the truth.

Prayer:

Lord, reveal the lies I’ve believed about myself, others, and You. Replace those lies with Your Word. Let Your truth take root in my heart and produce real change. Amen.
