Trusting God’s Plan for our Children
May 31, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take”
Psalms 127:4 NLT
Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
Devotional:
From the moment that sweet, tiny, chubby cheeked, perfect bundle is placed in our arms, when we get called “mom” or “dad” for the first time, we start to invision what life will look like for the miracle we have been entrusted with. Dreams of college, sports, careers, and all the possibilities we want to make sure are available to theme dance in our heads. We want to make sure they have every opportunity that maybe we weren’t able to have. Without realizing it we begin to have our children’s lives all planned out. High school, college, career, marriage, kids — in that order.
But what happens when our plans aren’t God’s plans. What happens when what we dreamed for them is not what they dream for themselves.
Today God is asking you: Will you trust Me with them? Will you let Me do My work in their life? I have great plans that will take them places where you will not be able to help or control the outcome. I want to do My work — but not as long as you hold on too tightly. I want you to let go.
“Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth” (Psalm 127:4).
Can you imagine a trained warrior who has spent their entire life preparing for battle by sharpening their arrows and perfecting their aim? Imagine this trained warrior going into battle, retrieving the arrow from the quiver, placing it in the bow, pulling back, perfectly aiming, but then not letting go.
This is what we do as parents when we spend years pouring God's Truth into our children, sacrificing sleep, spending hours on our knees in prayer, preparing them for the future … and then not letting go, not releasing them to fulfill their God-given purpose.
As we raise our children, let God grant us the wisdom and strength to guide and mold them. And then give us the faith and courage to let go.
Journal:
How has God cared for your children or loved ones when you couldn’t be there yourself, and how does it build your trust to remember those moments? Write these things down in your journal.
Training:
Father,
I thank You for being a loving, omniscient God who has plans for me and the people in my life. May I always remember that Your ways are higher than my ways (Isaiah 55:9) and that Your plans are always good. Grant me a heart of surrender.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
