Trusting God for the Future
January 3, 2025
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.” (Psalm 37:5)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
Devotional:
We often find ourselves looking ahead at the future with both hope and apprehension. New challenges—like a change in career, family transitions, or unexpected health concerns—can stir up worries. Yet God calls us to trust in Him above all else, reminding us that He is already in our tomorrows. He walks before us, preparing the way and working all things together for good.
The wisdom of Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us that our own perspective is limited, no matter how knowledgeable we become. As humans, we piece together our plans from scattered possibilities, but God sees the entire tapestry. He weaves together the strands of our lives, shaping a story that reflects His faithfulness and glory. When we relinquish our need for complete control, we discover that His hands are far more trustworthy than our own.
Trusting God for the future doesn’t mean we live without planning or discipline—He gives us skills and responsibilities for a reason. But it does mean we hold our plans loosely, remaining open to His guidance. As you face uncertainty, remember that God cares deeply for you. Entrust your heart, your plans, and your future into His loving hands, confident that He will direct your paths.
As you look back on the year, reflect on how God guided you through uncertainties. Let that reflection build your trust in Him for the year ahead. Spend time thanking Him for the direction He provided and ask Him for continued guidance as you move forward. Commit the upcoming year to His hands with confidence in His sovereignty.
Journal
In your journal write down your top fears and worries about the future. Pray over each one and write down what God might be teaching you through them. Reflect on scriptures about trust such as Jeremiah 29:11, Matthew 6:34, psalms 37:5
Training:
Heavenly Father,Thank You for Your steadfast love and unchanging nature. Teach me to trust You with every step, especially when the path ahead feels unknown. Help me surrender my fears and lean on Your wisdom rather than my own understanding. Show me how to honor You in my plans as I look to the future, and grant me peace in knowing You are always near. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
