Understanding Your Identity in Christ

November 25, 2024

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Ephesians 1:9–14 (NLT)

9 God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,[a] for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

12 God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. 13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own[b] by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

Devotional:

Understanding your identity in Christ is foundational to living a life of purpose, peace, and joy. Often, we search for meaning in our careers, relationships, or accomplishments, but the truth of our identity lies in something far greater.

Ephesians 1 reminds us that God chose us before we even existed. He adopted us into His family through Christ, not because of anything we did but because of His love and pleasure. This means our identity is not earned—it’s given. You are a beloved child of God, sealed with the Holy Spirit, and destined for an eternal inheritance.

God’s plan is perfect, and as part of His family, you have access to His grace, strength, and guidance. The Holy Spirit is His guarantee—a daily reminder that you belong to Him. This is not a fleeting or conditional identity. It’s eternal, unshakable, and rooted in the unchanging nature of God.

Journal:

In your journal, take time to reflect on the truth that you are deeply loved by God. Meditate on Ephesians 1:5 and thank Him for adopting you into His family. When doubts or insecurities arise, remind yourself that your identity is in Christ, not in what others say or think about you.

Training:

Today Let your actions reflect the gratitude and joy of belonging to His family.

And just as you have received the truth, share it with others who need to know their identity in Christ.

Father,

Thank You for choosing me and calling me Your child. Help me to walk in the truth of who I am in Christ. When I feel unworthy or lost, remind me of Your love and the inheritance You have prepared for me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and use my life to bring glory to You. I praise You for making me Your own.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
