Unlocking the Mysteries of the Kingdom
July 10, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
Matthew 13:10-13 New Living Translation
10 His disciples came and asked him, “Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?”
11 He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets[a] of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not. 12 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. 13 That is why I use these parables,
For they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.
Matthew 11:15
15 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!
John 8:31-32 NLT
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Devotional:
The more that you mature and grow in Christ the more of the secrets or mysteries that are revealed to you.
So, how do we become part of the Kingdom of Heaven and begin to unlock its mysteries?
When Jesus said, you are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, who was he talking to? He was talking to those who were following his commands and doing what he told them to do. Those who wholeheartedly seek after God and the things of God. Jesus said It would be given to those who listen! But not just hear, listen and put into practice what is being said.
The Greek word that was used to translate this word, “mysteries,” is the word musterian.
According to the lexicon the definition of Musterian
is generally mysteries, religious secrets, confided only to the initiated and not to ordinary mortals.
the secret counsels which govern God in dealing with the righteous, which are hidden from ungodly and wicked men but plain to the godly
This means true disciples are initiated into the secret things of the kingdom of God. It is not your average “nod if you believe in God” crowd. It is the disciplined followers who have these truths revealed to them. Those who are committed and dedicated!
If we want the mysteries of Heaven revealed to us then we have to adopt the lifestyle of a disciple. The disciples of Jesus were continuously with Jesus, hearing and applying and hearing and applying His teaching.
Jesus says in those with “ears to hear” were enabled “to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.” Wow! Do you see that? But it takes a commitment of our time, effort, and energy to dig up the treasures of God’s Word! One of the most important things in gaining knowledge, revelation, and wisdom is having a desire in your heart for it. If you want it bad enough, you will invest your time in it!
A lot of times we don’t understand God’s mysteries because we close our eyes, ears, and hearts. It is not God who withholds from us! We can’t blame God! It’s our job to position ourselves to understand these mysteries by continuing in His Word.
The Bible says we are truly his disciples when we are faithful to his teachings! Then we know the truth! Notice that it is when we make the decision to continue in His Word and be faithful in his teachings that we know the truth. It’s not all on God! It is up to us to decide that we want to become His disciples.
Journal:
In your journal write down the difference between someone who claims to believe in Christ and a true follower. What does it look like to be a follower of Jesus?
Training:
Read Luke 9:23
What is your thought process when Jesus says to deny yourself? What
does this practically look like and how can you begin to apply that to your life?
