Vision and Expectation
January 6, 2025
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
Habakkuk 2:2-3
“Then the Lord replied: ‘Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.’”
Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) - “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
Devotional:
Vision and expectation are two vital elements in our walk with God. Vision provides clarity of purpose, while expectation fuels our faith to see the vision fulfilled. The prophet Habakkuk, in a moment of seeking God, was instructed to write the vision down, making it plain and accessible. This act of writing symbolizes commitment to what God has revealed, ensuring that it is not forgotten or neglected.
When God gives us a vision—whether it’s a dream, a calling, or a promise—it is often tied to a process. Sometimes, that process feels slow, and doubts begin to creep in. However, God’s timing is perfect. He reassures us, “Though it linger, wait for it.” Waiting is not passive; it is an active posture of faith, expectation, and obedience.
Having vision without expectation can lead to discouragement, while expectation without vision can result in aimlessness. Together, they anchor us in God’s promises and keep us moving forward, even when the journey feels uncertain.
As we begin 2025, let’s embrace the vision God has for us. At Clawson, our focus is to Discover God, Connect into His family, Develop as disciples, and Expand His kingdom. Vision sets the course for our church and personal lives. Without it, we lose focus, direction, and passion.
Expect God to move this year.
Your expectations influence your experiences. What do you believe God can do in and through you this year? Pray for clarity and align your heart with His plans. Prepare for the harvest—souls saved, lives transformed, and the Kingdom of God expanded.
Journal:
In your journal answer these questions:
1. What is God showing you? Take a moment to reflect on the vision or promises He has placed in your heart. Write them down clearly.
2. How are you waiting? Evaluate whether your attitude in waiting aligns with faith and expectation.
3. What steps can you take today? While you wait, ask God for the next steps to prepare for the vision’s fulfillment.
Training:
Key Principles to apply to my life:
1. Write the Vision: Commit your God-given dreams and instructions to paper or prayer journals. Making the vision plain brings focus and accountability.
2. Hold to Expectation: Believe that God is faithful to fulfill His promises. Develop an attitude of expectancy, trusting in His perfect timing.
3. Stay Faithful in the Process: The in-between time—the waiting—is where character is refined, faith is deepened, and preparation occurs.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the vision You have given me. thank You for the vision You’ve given our church for 2025. Help me to see clearly and to write it down with faith and clarity. Teach me to wait with expectation, trusting in Your perfect timing. Help me to align my heart with Your purpose and expect great things. Guide me as I take the next steps in Your plan. Strengthen my heart in moments of doubt, and guide my steps as I walk toward the fulfillment of what You have spoken. May my life reflect Your faithfulness and glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
