What Stops Us From Having Faith?
September 18, 2024
Hello Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
James 1:6-8 New Living Translation
6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
Devotional:
What stops us from having faith? What stops us from getting in the plane? Have any of you ever struggled with Doubt? Have you ever doubted God? Doubted your calling? Doubted your worth? Doubted yourself and felt like you were unworthy of being God’s Child?
Doubt is a feeling of uncertainty or a lack of conviction.
Doubt is being uncertain of what God says.
Not believing what God says, which is the opposite of faith, and almost always results and sin.
God said to Adam and Eve don’t eat from this tree, and if you do, you will surely die. They did not believe what God said. Sin was the result of not having faith in what God had already said.
Now this struggle between faith and doubt is all through the Bible. And continues to this very day.
But, the answer to the struggle here is not very complicated. If God said it, put your faith and trust in what He said. Don’t doubt it, or worse, not believe it.
If God said Jesus is the only way to heaven, then trust what God said.
If God said if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord then you will be saved. Trust what He said.
If God said that He will supply all of our needs according to His riches and glory. Trust what He said.
If God said He blesses obedience and curses disobedience, trust what He says.
If He said He has a good plan for you, He wants to use you, empower you, that you will do greater things then what He did when He was on the earth. He said all of those things trust what He said. Get in the plane.
But what happens is the enemy will try to get you to doubt God like he did with Eve.
We know deep down that God is good. What about that He’s kind, that He’s gracious, that He’s merciful, that He loves us.
But Satan will come along and try to tell you if God loved you, then He wouldn’t let this happen to you, when he himself is the very one bringing on the trouble. Satan will come along and try to deceive you, he will use your past, he will use your emotions, he will use your friends, he will use your family, use politics, anything that he can use to plant a seed of doubt in your life. Because he knows if he can cause you to doubt God, then he can stop you from receiving from God.
We overcome doubt by releasing and walking in faith.
Doubt says- what if
Faith says - even if
Faith sees promises, doubt sees problems. Faith sees possibilities, doubt sees obstacles. Faith sees answers, doubt sees questions.
Hebrews 11:6 says without faith, it is impossible to please God, it is never pleasing to God for us to doubt what he says. To doubt his ability to fulfill his word. Doubt his faithfulness to doubt his goodness, to doubt his love, or to doubt his truth. What’s pleasing to God for us to trust what he says to get in the plane and have faith.
Journal:
Is there currently something in your life or your faith that you are doubting? Write down in your journal one way that you can push through.
Training:
Father,
You are bigger than our doubts or questions. We believe that You draw near to us, even if we have doubts. Please show us how we can move forward with our doubts and questions, and show us more of You along the way.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
