Where do I Take My Children?

May 20, 2024

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Psalm 92:12-13 New Living Translation

But the godly will flourish like palm trees

and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.

For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.

They flourish in the courts of our God.

Devotional:

Being a parent is the most exciting, exasperating, challenging, draining, and yet most rewarding thing that we will do in our lives.

Parenting is also one of the biggest challenges that we face in the family. Things would be a lot easier if children came with a customized manual. Parenting would be so much easier if there was a instruction guide because if we are honest most of the time we have no clue what we are  doing.

This week we are going to look at  some principles of parenting that can be beneficial for families if we will put these principles into practice.

1. Where we take our children

Where we take our kids shows them things that are important in our life.

For example…. If I take my kids on Vacation then I am showing them that getting away with just the family and family time is important to me. If I take them to dance, or basketball or to something that they love it shows them that what they love is important to me. If I take them to school it shows them I value education.

Where I take my kids speaks volumes to them about me. It shows them what I value, what I put first in my life. It allows them to see if my actions and my words line up. If I say I value the things that they love, but I never take them to do them, if I say I love God, but I never put him first or take them to encounter him are my actions showing what my words are saying?

The most important places that you can take your children is the church. Not a specific building, but a place where they are given the opportunity to meet up with, learn from, and train with other believers and families that are going on the same path.

The worst place you can take your kids is to fellowship, hang out with, meet up with, learn from people that are not going in the same path as your family.

Going back to that scripture it said “They are transplanted to the Lord's own house, they flourish in the courts of our God”. Truth is that people that are planted in a good environment, with good people, in the presence of God and with the people of God, that have that influence in their lives are usually flourishing with the things of God. At the same time people that are planted in an area, with people that are influencing them in a direction that goes away from God, usually go away from God. Where you take your kids matters.

So, if that is true, it begs the question where are you taking your kids? What is where you are taking your kids telling them about you as their parent? Do you feel like this is something that you need to change?

To show them that they are a priority in your life or that God is a priority in your life. If so I want to encourage you to make the shift you need to make.

Journal:

In your journal today write down places that your parents took you as a child. What did it tell you about them and their values? Write down the places you take your children. What values do you want to tell you kids by the places you take them?

Training:

Father,

Thank You for being a Father to us, and leading us to become more like Your Son every day. Please show us how we might lead younger generations to get to know You better by how we live and how we love.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
