Who is the Holy Spirit?

January 22, 2024

Clawson Family,

Time to kick off a new week of devotionals! Grab your coffee and lets get our worship on!

Scripture: John 14:15-17; 26 NLT

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, obey[d] my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate,[e] who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.[f]

26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Devotion:

This week Pastor Josh preached on the empowerment of the church through the Holy Spirit. This week we are going to be diving into the Holy Spirit and his gifts. Let’s start with who He is! Before Jesus left he gave us a a promise. He said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate. In the original Greek,  ‘advocate’ translates to parakletos. It means ‘someone called in to help’.

So that  could be:

  • a lawyer called in to defend you

  • a witness called in to testify in your behalf

  • anyone called in to help in your hour of need

  • a friend.

The Holy Spirit was sent to guide us when we need guidance and to protect us from harm.

Journal:

Think back and see a time when the Holy Spirit was leading you, write in down in your journal!  Did He comfort, counsel, or convict you?

Training:

Spend time in prayer this week seeking a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. Pray and allow Him to counsel and comfort you with any struggles you may be facing, as well as convict you of your sins.
