Who Needs the Gospel?
November 4, 2024
Hey Clawson Family!
Song:
Scripture:
Romans 3:10-12
10 As the Scriptures say,
No one is righteous—
not even one.
11 No one is truly wise;
no one is seeking God.
12 All have turned away;
all have become useless
Romans 3:23 New Living Translation
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
James 1:14-15 New Living Translation
14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
Devotional:
The word “gospel” literally means good news! The reason it’s good news is that without the gospel, there is bad news. Why would anyone ever believe they need to hear or believe the gospel unless they understood their need for it? Romans 3:23 answers the question for us: who needs the gospel, or who needs to be saved? The answer is: Everyone. Why? This scripture gives us some clarification that we have all sinned and are in need of a savior to be reconciled to God.
Paul writes in Romans 3:10-12 that no one is righteous, no one is good, and no one keeps the Ten Commandments perfectly. God is holy, and every single human being who has ever lived does not perfectly live up to God’s standard. Whether you’ve sinned once or have lived your life in sin, we need to understand that all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s standard.
Sin is one of those words that lots of people are trying to get away from in Church cause it makes people uncomfortable. Listening to music should make you uncomfortable. Sin is Dangerous.
Sin without Jesus = Death. Sin is a reality that needs to be presented to people if we are going to understand the gospel. Everybody is a sinner. Being a sinner separates us from having a relationship with a holy God. We need a solution, and his name is Jesus.
Journal:
Do you ever struggle with the idea of feeling good enough for God? How does understanding God’s grace free you from the need to strive or the fear of being unwanted? Answer these questions in your journal. Write down what the Lord is speaking to you through these scriptures.
Training:
Jesus, thank you for saving me from my sin. I choose today to live for you. I won’t let anything get in my way of knowing you in a deep and real way. In your name, Amen.
