Your Response to Hurt will Determine Your Future

April 10, 2024

Hey Clawson Family!

Song:

Scripture:

Luke 6: 27-26

Love for Enemies

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Devotional:

How you address your hurt and that you address your hurt is so important for your future.

Forgiveness is not an easy thing, it is hard work and anybody who tells you otherwise is somebody who hasn’t actually been hurt in life.

How do I forgive? How do I find the strength to forgive? Forgiveness means to release, to let something go. If I don’t let go of the hurt I am never going to receive the healing power of forgiveness.

We don’t have control over what happens to us or how someone hurts us, but we do have control over how we respond. So we need to respond in the right way. So, that begs the question how do we respond to hurt, or hate, or people cursing you?

Jesus tells us in Luke 6 to “Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who hurt you. That is what forgiveness looks like.

Journal:

In your journal today write blessings to those that have cursed you or done you wrong.

Training:

Its time to apply scriptures you read to your life. Today I want you to pray for those that hurt you.
