Bearing the Fruits of the Spirit
January 24, 2024
Clawson Family,
Here's your worship song for the day.
Song:
Scripture:
Galatians 5:19-23 NLT
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Devotion:
I would say that each of these fruits are supernatural. It’s impossible to bear the fruit of the Spirit in our own strength! Without Him, there’s no way that we can love the unloveable and have joy during when it seems our lives are in chaos. True peace, patience, and kindness are impossible if we try on our own. Our goodness and faithfulness fall way short without His presence. Have you ever tried to be gentle or self-controlled in your own? In my experience, it’s not pretty.
As we remain in Him, seek Him, and focus our attention on Him, bearing good fruit—the fruit of the Spirit will become natural. We can’t manufacturer it. It only comes through sanctification. I wonder what our communities, workplaces, and homes might look like if we focused on the Spirit’s work within us! Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to develop good fruit in our lives as we continue to lean on Him.
Journal:
In your journal look at Gal 5:22-23 and write down what the Holy Spirit produce in us, as we walk in dependence on Him. As you look at the list identify the fruits that you feel the weakest in. Ask God to allow the Holy Spirit to empower you in those areas. Write down how operating in the fruits of the Spirit would make a difference in your behavior, emotions, and relationships.
Training:
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you anything that would prevent Him from bearing the fruits of the Spirit. (This could be: unconfessed sins, unbelief, bitterness, areas of rebellion, pride, self-reliance, or putting other people/things before God.) Ask for forgiveness for those things and allow him to remove them from you life and replace them with the fruits of Spirit, so that your life brings glory to Him.
