Living Stones and a Chosen People

December 13, 2024

Hey Clawson family!

Song:

Scripture:

1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10 (NIV)

“As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. … But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

Devotional:

These verses remind us of our identity in Christ and our purpose as believers. We are described as “living stones,” being built into a spiritual house. This imagery points to the fact that our lives, when surrendered to God, are not isolated or meaningless. Instead, we are part of a grand, divine construction project where Jesus Himself is the cornerstone.

Peter also emphasizes that we are a chosen people. God didn’t randomly select us; He intentionally called us to be part of His royal priesthood, a holy nation, and His treasured possession. This identity is not based on our accomplishments or worthiness but on His mercy and grace.

Before Christ, we were scattered, wandering, and without a true identity. But through His work, we have been brought into a family, unified and called out of darkness into His marvelous light. This light is not just for our comfort but so we can declare His praises to the world.

Journal:

In your journal, Spend time meditating on what it means to be a “living stone” in God’s spiritual house. Are you allowing Him to shape you and fit you into His divine purpose? As part of a royal priesthood, how can you offer spiritual sacrifices today? This might mean acts of worship, service, or sharing His love with others.

Training:

Take a moment to think about how God has brought you out of darkness. Share your testimony or express your gratitude in prayer or conversation today.

Father, thank You for calling me to be part of Your chosen people. Thank You for bringing me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Help me to live as a living stone, contributing to Your spiritual house, and declaring Your praises in all I do. Use my life to reflect Your mercy and grace to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
