🙌 ALTAR MINISTRY STRUCTURE & ROLES

“Every Role Carries the Presence” ✨

Hey there! 👋Welcome to this session of Clawson Church’s Altar Ministry Training — Structure & Roles. In this session, we’ll unpack how our altar ministry operates as a team — with order, unity, and Spirit-led purpose.

We’re not a free-for-all. We’re a family on mission. 💪Our structure keeps ministry time flowing smoothly and safely — creating space for the Holy Spirit to move freely while keeping everything grounded in order, care, and clarity.

🕊️ WHY STRUCTURE MATTERS

We serve as a team, and that means everyone has a role to play. Organization doesn’t limit the Spirit — it makes room for Him to move through people who are prepared and aligned.

When each person knows their role, the whole team moves as one — like a symphony of surrender. 🎶

💼 ROLES WITH PURPOSE

1️⃣ PRAYER TEAM COORDINATOR

The Prayer Team Coordinator oversees the entire altar ministry.

🗓️ What They Do:

  • Schedule prayer teams each Sunday

  • Check in with Altar Captains

  • Ensure every team is covered and equipped

  • Communicate between staff and altar leaders

They’re the shepherd of the shepherds — keeping everyone aligned, supported, and cared for week to week. Their role keeps every altar moment running with both peace and purpose. 🌿

2️⃣ ALTAR CAPTAIN

Each service has an Altar Captain — the on-site leader of that moment.

🕊️ What They Do:

  • Pray over the team before service

  • Set the tone spiritually and practically

  • Discern what the Holy Spirit is doing

  • Step in when direction or support is needed

They guide their team with wisdom and sensitivity, making sure the flow of ministry stays healthy, peaceful, and Spirit-led. Throughout the week, Captains check in with their team, ensuring everyone is cared for and ready to serve.

💡 Think of them as the spiritual quarterback of the moment.

3️⃣ ALTAR MINISTERS

These are the main people praying with individuals at the altar. 🙏

🕊️ What They Do:

  • Listen to the Holy Spirit and intercede for people

  • Walk individuals through moments of surrender, healing, and freedom

  • Help people understand what salvation truly means

Salvation isn’t a quick transaction — it’s a complete transformation. As an Altar Minister, you don’t just pray — you disciple in the moment.

📋 Always fill out an Altar Ministry Testimony Card for every salvation, healing, or breakthrough. That card allows us to celebrate, follow up, and disciple people into lasting change.

Key Thought: This isn’t casual — it’s holy ground. Stay prayed up, sensitive, and ready before, during, and after ministry.

4️⃣ ALTAR WORKERS

Altar Workers are the hands and heart that help ministry flow smoothly and safely. ❤️‍🔥

🕊️ What They Do:

  • Assist with catch-and-cover when people respond physically to God’s presence

  • Provide tissues, oil, cards, or pens as needed

  • Quietly intercede nearby and help record every testimony

  • Maintain a distraction-free, peaceful environment

Their service may seem behind-the-scenes, but it’s powerful. They help ensure every person is cared for, covered, and followed up with.

🌟 Their posture: peace, awareness, compassion, and readiness.

💭 CLOSING THOUGHT

Every role matters — from the Coordinator who schedules, to the Captain who leads, to the Ministers and Workers who serve on the front lines.

We’re not just managing moments — we’re cultivating encounters. 💖Our shared goal:

That every person who comes to the altar leaves knowing they’ve truly encountered Jesus — that their life has been touched, changed, and set on a new path of surrender and transformation.

You’re part of something sacred. Let’s serve with unity, humility, and expectation for what God will do next. 🙌
