Ministry Guideline

Practical do’s and don’ts for prayer ministry—covering everything from how to approach people to what to say (and what not to say) in sensitive moments.

🙏 PRAYER DELIVERY GUIDELINES

“Loving Well in Every Moment” 💞

Hey team! 👋Welcome to this session of Clawson Church’s Altar Ministry Training — Prayer Delivery Guidelines. This one is all about the how — how we pray, how we move, and how we carry the heart of Jesus during ministry moments.

At the altar, how you pray matters just as much as what you pray. We’re not here to impress; we’re here to love well, stay Spirit-sensitive, and make space for God to move without distraction.

🌿 THE POSTURE OF PRAYER

We never assume, rush, or perform. We stay peaceful, gentle, and intentional.

🧺 Practical things that matter:

  • Dress modestly and professionally 👕

  • Avoid distractions in appearance

  • Wear deodorant, bring mints, and stay fresh — you’ll be in close spaces!

  • When ministry begins (“Everyone stand…”), move forward with readiness and purpose

💡 Don’t crowd people; give space between ministers. Don’t draw attention to yourself with volume or drama. The Holy Spirit is powerful but peaceful.

👀 STAY AWARE & PRESENT

Keep your eyes open as you pray — it’s both spiritual and practical. Watch for tears, discomfort, or breakthrough. Stay visually engaged and responsive.

Always ask before laying hands:

“Would it be okay if I place my hand on your shoulder as I pray?”

A light touch is enough — never shake, push, or grab. Honor cultural and personal boundaries.

🕊️ Let your tone match the Holy Spirit’s heart: Warm, calm, and full of peace.

💬 HOW WE PRAY

Your words can build faith or break trust. Be Spirit-led, gentle, and focused on what God is doing in the person right now.

Avoid gossip, assumptions, or “fixing” language. You’re not there to diagnose — you’re there to pray with discernment, kindness, and clarity.

Let’s walk through some common altar moments 👇

✝️ SALVATION MOMENTS

When someone says, “I want to surrender my life to Jesus,” — this is a holy moment.

Celebrate quietly and help them understand that salvation isn’t a transaction — it’s surrender. It’s laying everything down to follow Jesus as Lord.

Ask:

“Have you ever surrendered your life to Jesus before?”

If not, lead them in a simple prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father… I surrender my life fully to You…”

📋 Then fill out an Altar Ministry Testimony Card so our team can celebrate and follow up.

💔 PRAYING FOR CONVICTION OR REPENTANCE

When someone is under conviction, stay gentle. Do not shame or act shocked.

Encourage them to talk directly to God:

“His kindness leads us to repentance, and His grace is more than enough.”

After they pray, speak identity over them:

“You are loved. You are forgiven. You are free.”

🕊️ FORGIVENESS & HEALING

Unforgiveness is one of the biggest barriers to freedom. Be patient — don’t push.

Guide them through a prayer:

“Lord, I choose to forgive [name] for [what they did]…”

Remind them forgiveness is a process, not a one-time feeling. Heaven celebrates every step toward freedom.

💭 EMOTIONAL & INNER HEALING

People often come heavy — with grief, fear, anxiety, or shame. Ask gently:

“What are you feeling right now?”

Invite them to trade heaviness for healing:

“God, I give You my [fear, grief, anxiety]… and I receive Your [peace, joy, love].”

Then speak peace and remind them: healing has already begun.

🔥 BEING FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

If someone says, “I want to be filled with the Holy Spirit,” — beautiful! Ask if they’ve surrendered to Jesus first, then help them invite Him personally.

“Holy Spirit, I welcome You… Fill me with Your presence…”

Don’t force or overhype. Let the moment be peaceful, powerful, and personal. Encourage next steps like a Miracle Night or prayer gathering.

💪 HEALING PRAYERS

Ask what they’d like prayer for — don’t diagnose. Lay a gentle hand (with permission) and pray with faith:

“God, we know You are the Healer. Touch this body in Jesus’ name.”

Whether they feel immediate change or not, remind them: God is working.

🫧 ANOINTING WITH OIL

Oil isn’t magical — it’s meaningful. If you use it, always ask first and apply just a small touch. Keep it clean, respectful, and worshipful.

💞 FAMILY, MARRIAGE & RELATIONSHIP PRAYER

When people share family struggles, remember — you’re not a counselor. Pray peace and unity, not advice.

“God, bring healing and clarity to this home.”

If deeper help is needed, connect them with a pastor or ministry team.

💸 FINANCIAL PRAYER

When someone asks for financial prayer, respond with compassion. Don’t give advice or make assumptions. Pray hope and wisdom:

“God, You are our provider. Bring breakthrough and peace.”

🚨 CRISIS & RED FLAGS

If you hear words like “I don’t want to live,” or “Someone is hurting me,” — stay calm and get help. Signal a pastor or Altar Captain immediately.

“You’re not alone. We have leaders who can help.”

Protect privacy, but prioritize safety.

🔮 PROPHETIC WORDS

If God gives you an impression, speak it with humility. Avoid “God told me…” language. Say instead:

“I feel impressed to share this…” or “I sense God might be saying…”

Keep it biblical, encouraging, and accountable. Prophecy should strengthen, comfort, and uplift.

🔁 FOLLOW-UP MATTERS

The altar is often the starting point of someone’s new journey. After prayer, always ask:

“What’s their next step?”

✔️ Fill out an Altar Ministry Testimony Card

✔️ Help them access the Next Steps video or QR code

✔️ Connect them to a small group, baptism, or pastor

✔️ Celebrate what God did 🎉

Follow-up is how moments become movement.

💗 FINAL ENCOURAGEMENT

You don’t need to be perfect or polished — just present and surrendered. Every prayer, every tear, every gentle touch matters.

You are now equipped, empowered, and covered. Step forward with humility and boldness, carrying the love of Jesus in your heart.

Let’s build a culture at Clawson where people experience healing, freedom, salvation, and the undeniable presence of God — one altar moment at a time. ✨
